The Man Who Found Time:James Hutton and the Discovery of the Earth's Antiquity

Repcheck, Jack
2003 (First edition). Simon and Schuster , London, England

A remarkable story of a little recognised gentleman Scottish farmer who developed a theory that "flew in the face of the Bible's teaching and provided the scientific proof that would spark Darwin's theory of evolution". That the is mentioned in the same breath as Copernicus and Darwin is in itself a tribute to his extreme importance and this very approachable narrative is a delightful read for anyone interested in scientific discovery.
